Rather than being cheesy, I think the respec option adds a lot of versatility and diversity to character builds, so that you are not just using the same skill set throughout the entire game. But that way ppl could pump early level skills for Normal, respec for mid-level skills in NM, and then respec once again for end game skills in Hell. Dont know how much of a programming problem that would be. Perhaps, the number of respecs could simply be limited to 2-3, after which the respec option is disabled for that character. A limited number of respecs are also available in Everquest 2. In City of Heroes, you have to perform a difficult quest in order to respec your skills, and the number of respecs is also limited. Somehow, the number of allowed respecs needs to be limited. Otherwise, ppl can easily respec their skills for each area of the game, which would effectively nullify immunity challenges. In effect, this sets a practical limit the number of respecs to around four. First respec costs 1 gold, second 10 gold, third 50 gold, fourth 100 gold, fifth 1000 gold, etc. In WoW, a char can respec all skills at any point, but it costs an exponentially increasing amount of gold. However, I also think it needs to be balanced a little. IMO it is a nice and welcome touch to Diablo. Twisted Essence of Suffering (dropped by Andariel and Duriel)Ĭharged Essence of Hatred (dropped by Mephisto)īurning Essence of Terror (dropped by Diablo)įestering Essence of Destruction (dropped by Baal). The respec option, (available from Plug-Y), for changing one's skills at any point in the game, may seem cheesy to hardcore D2 fans, but it is precisely what Blizzard has made available in World of Warcraft. The Token of Absolution is created in the Horadric Cube by cubing together four different Essences that drop infrequently from the act bosses in Hell difficulty. This works in the same way as the reward from the Den of Evil quest, but allows a character infinite respecs, provided that they are willing to gather the reagents each time they desire a respec. Added in Patch 1.13, the Token of Absolution is a consumable item that grants the character one stat/skill reset.
